Taking a cue from John D. Rockefellers’
quote; ‘‘I don’t think that there is any other quality
so essential to success as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost
everything, even nature.’’ We would start off by saying Success is no joke. It
takes more than effective thinking and creativity; it also takes a great deal of perseverance.
That said; let’s move on
to defining what success is.
Success in reality has no English
grammar definition. It is defined by your own perception of the sort of life
you want for yourself. To you success could be defined by how many cars you
park in your garage, plots of land you’ve got, numbers of kids, PhD or
Doctorate degree or the present climax of your business.
***For the record sake, to
me success is the currency (not US Dollars or Pounds Sterling, but how many
people you’ve impacted their life for the better) you can spend in the society
so called life. It’s a reflection of you in the mirror of others. Success is
best established in the lives of the people around you, it’s what they imagine
when they think of you.
Success is being able to discover who you are, your
passion and desires, your potentials and God given talents. Success is you defined to the entire world to reflect on.
Creativity on the other hand is the ability to
think through a problem and provide a solution to it. It involves engaging your
mind into accurate and serious thinking to provide ideas and insights.
”It is the ability to apply your physical and mental energies to
one problem incessantly without growing weary.”…Thomas Edison.
Tools for successful and creative mind.
1.
The Vilfredo Pareto 80% /20% principle.
A Zen proverb says; the
first step east is also the first step west. A lot of people in the world today
have not come to realize that the true secret to productive thinking and
success lies in how much you develop your mind. The fact is, 80% of the world total
wealth is controlled by 20% of the world population. Here’s another fact that
will stun you, a creative mind engaged in productive thinking will gain 80%
advantage than someone who engage his body in labor work in lesser time. For instance, the board of executives in a
company earns 80% of the total profit made, while 20% is shared amidst the
non-executive staffs. The amazing thing about this is, 80% of the profit was
actually generated by the vigorous effort of non-executive staffs while the
remaining 20% is due to the productive thinking of the executive. That is, by
doing 20% of work, you can generate 80% of the advantage of doing the entire work.
Therefore, developing
a creative mind starts by you prioritizing 20% of the things you know makes you
productive, not neglecting the remaining 80% left but putting more time and
productivity in the 20%.
Creativity is a thing of the mind and it takes highly effective
thinking to make this creativity produce expected results. Another fact that
will blow your mind is; 70% of the world population don’t are not thinkers, 15%
get stressed when trying to think, 10% thinks they are thinking and the
remaining 5% are the real thinkers. To be successful in life, you need to
develop your mind to the level of the 5% or remain in the 10%, 15% or perhaps
the 70%. Remember; the first step east
is also the first step west.
2. Emotional intelligence;
Emotional intelligence otherwise known as
Emotional intelligence Quotient is relevant in developing and achieving greater
goals and interpersonal relation. Emotional intelligence is ability and
capacity to manage emotions the of one ’s self and others. It is the ability to
sense others emotion and put yours in control without having to hurt other yet
make tough and intuitive decisions. As said
by Daniel Goleman;”if your emotional abilities aren’t in hand, if you don’t
have self-awareness, if you are not able to manage your distress emotion, of
you can’t have empathy and have effective relationships, then no matter how
smart you are, you are not going to get very far.”
Developing Emotional intelligence is
therefore important. Productivity and success, organization and performance all
rely on how sound you are emotionally. Conflict moderation, prompt
understanding, mental stability, communal harmony, self-awareness,
self-confidence and recognition, Behavioral intelligence, Self-control,
Self-motivation and ability to enhance relationship are benefits of EQ.
In your quest for creativity, success and
self development, it is very crucial you equip yourself with the fundamental
knowledge of Emotional intelligence. Success is a result of hard work, self
development, strong vision, innovativeness and ability to understand your own
aims.
3.
Self
esteem;
‘Courage
is reckoned the greatest of all virtues, because unless a man has that virtue,
he has no security for preserving any other.’’—SAMUEL JOHNSON
Self esteem is a mind state which is
quite a fundamental key to living a successful life. Nothing kills a man more
than his inability to communicate appropriately and lacks confidence. Positive thinking
is important when dealing with the issue of self-esteem. Please note that this
is quite different from self-confidence which is your personal believe in
yourself. Self-esteem is sometimes seen as arrogance or lack of humility. But sincerely,
every man needs a realm of self acknowledgement.
Invariably, anyone having issue with self
esteem never succeeds except they accept themselves for who they are, stop
blaming themselves for past mistakes and be fair to themselves.
‘‘There is no failure except in no longer trying. There is no
defeat from within, no insurmountable
barriers, save our own inherent weakness of purpose.’’
—ELBERT HUBBARD
4. Temperament and character development.
‘‘Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every
time we fail.’’—CONFUCIUS
The temperament of an individual depends on his inborn traits which
affects his character and behavior as he grows up. This also depends on his environment, household, parental care
and authorities. Basically, there four major categories of temperament which
include;
***The Sanguine. These
sets of people are extroverts; friendly, loving, egocentric, fearful hyperactive,
emotional and charming and they make good salesmen.
***The Choleric. These set of people are extroverts, sarcastic,
hot-tempered, weak, self-motivated, sometimes very cruel and hostile,
controversial and activist.
***The Melancholy. These set of people are perfectionist,
sacrificing, hot tempered, loyal and very talented.
***The Phlegmatic. These set of people are the peace lovers,
fearful and loyal.
Character is what
God and his angels know about you. Character lies within your heart and it is
connected to your type of temperament. A good character helps build a perfect
attitude which happens to be everything in life.
5.
Financial intelligence.
‘‘Always bear in mind that your own resolution
to succeed is more important than any other one thing.’’—ABRAHAM LINCOLN
Wealth
isn’t something you build over the night. It takes a great deal of processes
and time to build wealth. This processes start with you investing in yourself.
Ever wonder why some folks spend most of their
life chasing academic degrees and sorts, yet they won’t get the right job with
the proper pay? Simple, they were busy building their educational know how but neglected
developing their mind, emotional intelligence and financial knowledge
The mind is the most valuable asset
anyone could possess. A dysfunctional mind can never be productive lest create
wealth. The best place to put in your investment is in the mind; a well
equipped mind will produce outstanding results and generate wealth creating
ideas.
The reality is this; college certificate
cannot build in you the ability to relate effectively neither will it increase
your financial knowledge. The only source for this is you investing in yourself
by reading books on financial literacy, attend business schools and creative.
6.
Time
management and consistency.
How much respect you give to your time
and that of others determines how successful you will be. In case you don’t
know, time ticks, the more you let it tick on you the more it will master you.
To manage your time properly, its
paramount you set a day to day plan for yourself and don’t allow anything take
you out of this plan. Avoid time killing companies, TV programs and reading of
junk mails, it sure those waste time.
Consistency is what separates the rich
from the poor. Always focus on the things that move your goals forward and
brings you c loser to the fulfillment of your desire.
In conclusion, few people get to succeed in life because their
focus is not well set on what they want. To be successful you must be focused
and concentrate of your goal.
Be sure to remember that success is a mind set at the same time it’s
no joke. It takes committed effort, consistency and self motivation to be
successful and remain in it.
