Taking a cue from John D. Rockefellers’
quote; ‘‘I don’t think that there is any other quality
so essential to success as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost
everything, even nature.’’ We would start off by saying Success is no joke. It
takes more than effective thinking and creativity; it also takes a great deal of perseverance.
That said; let’s move on
to defining what success is.
Success in reality has no English
grammar definition. It is defined by your own perception of the sort of life
you want for yourself. To you success could be defined by how many cars you
park in your garage, plots of land you’ve got, numbers of kids, PhD or
Doctorate degree or the present climax of your business.
***For the record sake, to
me success is the currency (not US Dollars or Pounds Sterling, but how many
people you’ve impacted their life for the better) you can spend in the society
so called life. It’s a reflection of you in the mirror of others. Success is
best established in the lives of the people around you, it’s what they imagine
when they think of you.
Success is being able to discover who you are, your
passion and desires, your potentials and God given talents. Success is you defined to the entire world to reflect on.
Creativity on the other hand is the ability to
think through a problem and provide a solution to it. It involves engaging your
mind into accurate and serious thinking to provide ideas and insights.
”It is the ability to apply your physical and mental energies to
one problem incessantly without growing weary.”…Thomas Edison.
Tools for successful and creative mind.
1.
The Vilfredo Pareto 80% /20% principle.
A Zen proverb says; the
first step east is also the first step west. A lot of people in the world today
have not come to realize that the true secret to productive thinking and
success lies in how much you develop your mind. The fact is, 80% of the world total
wealth is controlled by 20% of the world population. Here’s another fact that
will stun you, a creative mind engaged in productive thinking will gain 80%
advantage than someone who engage his body in labor work in lesser time. For instance, the board of executives in a
company earns 80% of the total profit made, while 20% is shared amidst the
non-executive staffs. The amazing thing about this is, 80% of the profit was
actually generated by the vigorous effort of non-executive staffs while the
remaining 20% is due to the productive thinking of the executive. That is, by
doing 20% of work, you can generate 80% of the advantage of doing the entire work.
